For our organic muesli , we only use selected ingredients from controlled organic farming. With our purchasing decisions, we aim to promote the spread of organic agriculture in Europe and beyond. It makes sense not to stop at the original grain of muesli , crunchy or porridge in the bowl, but also to consider organic quality with milk, yoghurt, and potatoes.
Together with dietician and health scientist Angelika Kirchmaier , we have compiled 10 good reasons for organic hay milk & organic almond milk for World Milk Day, which takes place every year on June 1. "Alm products contain a number of healthy ingredients in significant quantities compared to products from intensive agriculture," says Angelika, who runs a nutritional therapy practice in Tyrol and teaches at universities of applied sciences, among other places. As a trained chef, the enjoyment aspect is not neglected, as you can see in the numerous books she has written and in the ORF Radio Tyrol , where Angelika has been offering weekly nutrition and cooking tips for almost 15 years.
10 good reasons to opt for organic hay milk or organic alm milk:
#1 Animal welfare:
The organic guidelines prescribe particularly species-appropriate animal husbandry with regular grazing or outdoor access. Organic pasture farms ensure that the animals have adequate space and contact with their conspecifics. After all, healthy cows are the basis for high-quality milk.
#2 Guaranteed GMO-free:
Organic milk is guaranteed to be GMO-free. This also applies to all processed organic dairy products such as fruit yoghurt, potatoes, and cheese.
#3 High-quality feed:
For the quality of the milk and overall health, the feed plays a decisive role. For example, the lower the proportion of concentrated feed, the higher the proportion of healthy ingredients. Organic suckler cows fed with fresh grass, hay, and organically grown feed provide particularly high-quality milk.
#4 Protein and Calcium Supplier:
Organic milk is not only a good source of calcium (a glass contains around 300 mg), but also contains all the essential amino acids. These building blocks are needed by the body for transport processes and to support the immune system.
#5 Lower Risk:
Alpine animals benefit from their care and feeding, leading to better health. An excess of medication is thus unnecessary. Aside from vaccinations, organic farmers must refrain from using preventive medications. As a consumer, you can assume that it is unlikely to absorb multi-resistant germs via an alpine pasture product.
#6 Plenty of omega-3s:
With its numerous positive properties, omega-3 fatty acids can counteract inflammation in the body, among other benefits. An increase in green fodder also results in an increase in valuable omega-3 fatty acids. Organic almond milk and products made from it, therefore, have a high proportion of omega-3 fatty acids, which positively impact blood vessels.
#7 High amount of ß-carotene:
Organic almond milk contains a particularly high amount of ß-carotene. This substance serves as a precursor for vitamin A, unfolds antioxidant properties in the body, thereby scavenging free radicals, and potentially preventing diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular issues.
#8 Good source of unsaturated fatty acids:
In the diet, the higher the proportion of saturated fatty acids, the less favorable the effect on the body; conversely, the higher the proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, the healthier. Organic Alm products excel with a high proportion of nutritious unsaturated fatty acids.
#9 Taste unparalleled by nature:
Organic almond milk products contain a wealth of different flavoring components. Therefore, they taste more intense than dairy products made from conventionally raised cows. You will notice this difference from the first sip or spoonful.
#10 Trust is good, control is better:
Organic products are regularly and strictly controlled to ensure that they are genuinely organic. Organic hay milk is subject to even stricter requirements that go beyond the European organic regulation – they are produced, for example, without the use of fermented feed (silage).
So, you see: for your organic cereal breakfast, it's always worth choosing organic hay milk or organic almond milk.
