When you think of superfoods, you might think of chia seeds and papaya, acai berries and acerola. But it doesn't have to be so exotic: thanks to its high nutrient content, oats (porridge) are among the healthiest foods – and at the same time one of the most delicious!
Ensure:
- the high proportion of vitamins
- the protein content (protein) of more than 13 percent
- the many minerals and soluble fiber
- and the essential amino acids
In this post, you will find detailed information about the health benefits of this domestic cereal. Find out what makes oats (avena sativa and avena nuda) the absolute all-rounder of the human diet.
Vegan or vegetarian? Then oats or our porridge should not be missing in your diet.
Minerals in oats
Minerals are vital nutrients. However, the human body cannot produce some on its own, such as magnesium and phosphorus. Avena sativa contains an average of 130mg of magnesium and 430mg of phosphorus per 100 grams – that's about 30 and 50% of the daily requirement, respectively!
Thus, a daily portion of oatmeal – which you can enjoy in cereal or as an oatmeal – ensures a healthy metabolism and strong bones. Copper, iron and zinc are also present in high quantities.
These three trace elements strengthen the immune system and are essential for the normal "functioning" of your body. Deficiency can lead to fatigue, acne or hair loss. Oats are the way to go!
Vitamins in oats
Vitamins are among the essential substances that the body must absorb with food. Seed oats contain mainly those of the B complex. Vitamin B1 (also called thiamine) is important for the nervous system, and biotin (B7) ensures beautiful skin and nails.
Other vitamins that oats provide in high content are vitamin B2, vitamin B5, and vitamin B6. These ensure, among other things, the breakdown of fat and the production of serotonin, the body's own happiness hormone.
Without vitamin K, which also belongs to the nutrient spectrum of oats, your body does not form strong bones. So you see: the numerous naturally occurring vitamins ensure that you feel comfortable in your body.
Amino acids in oats
Oats are rich in protein. On average, 13.5 grams of protein are contained in 100 grams of oats. These proteins are mostly composed of amino acids, which are the protein building blocks that your body cannot produce on its own.
Oats are among the foods that are best suited to absorb amino acids. This is because oats have eight essential amino acids, including leucine and lysine. A lack of amino acids can make you tired and weaken your defense system—prevent this with oats!

What are the health benefits of oats?
So you see: Seed oats (a plant species of the genus Oats) play an important role in healthy and smart nutrition. The high content of minerals, vitamins, and amino acids is responsible for this. With these ingredients, you provide your body with all the essential substances it needs – in a completely natural way.
Vitamin tablets and other dietary supplements are expensive and often too high in doses. Thus, they can even cause damage to your body, such as nerve damage. With oats, you are on the safe side – after all, nature is the best doctor.
The very high protein content of over 13 percent helps build muscle. This makes the cereal ideal for athletes and physically active people. See also Protein Porridge by Verival.
All cereal products, including rye, wheat, and barley, are rich in soluble fiber. Oats contain a particularly high amount of beta glucans . This fiber can lower cholesterol levels, have an anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting effect. In addition, heart and circulatory diseases can be prevented. [1]
In addition to all these benefits for the human body, there are also benefits for our environment. Unlike exotic superfoods , oats are grown in Europe. This prevents long transport distances and harmful emissions. Avena Sativa does not place high demands on the soil and also grows on barren soils.
Oats – health benefits for vegans & vegetarians

The German Nutrition Society has developed a new position on vegan nutrition based on the current scientific literature. If you eat a purely plant-based diet, it is important to pay attention to the intake of important nutrients. Especially vitamin B12, protein, indispensable amino acids, long-chain n-3 fatty acids as well as other vitamins (riboflavin, vitamin D) and minerals (calcium, iron, iodine, zinc, selenium). [2]
Therefore, an oat breakfast, such as our organic porridge, is very nutritious. Whole grains such as oats contain many of the potentially critical nutrients and are therefore important for a healthy diet. "Grains in the form of whole grains and potatoes also form a further basis and should be part of meals." This also includes nuts , legumes, and oil seeds (flaxseeds, chia seeds , etc.)
Enjoying oats in porridge, cereal, granola
The best part: Oats taste good! Whether in muesli as a healthy breakfast or in oatmeal, whether with milk, yogurt, or fruit – oats challenge the cliché of being healthy but inedible food.
Granola is also particularly popular. This method of preparation comes from the United States, where it was invented over 150 years ago. You can also prepare granola at home: Simply mix gritty oatmeal, nuts, and raisins with fat (coconut oil or similar), add some honey and cinnamon, bake the whole thing in the oven – and you're done!
The crispy muesli lasts for several weeks and tastes great with cottage cheese, yogurt, and fruit. So you are doing something good for your body, immune system, and palate as well!
